Igor Klushin advises on EU, UK, US and Swiss sanctions and represents clients in liaising with foreign sanctions regulators.

In addition to his work on sanctions law, Igor focuses on litigation and international arbitration. He represents clients both in international arbitrations under a variety of arbitration rules, including those of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, the International Chamber of Commerce, the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, and in litigations in Russia, primarily in corporate and commercial disputes.

Igor is recommended by Pravo-300 in the areas of “International Arbitration” and “Sanctions Law.”

  • Advising Russian banks, asset management companies and individuals on unblocking securities and cash held through the National Settlement Depository in Clearstream (Luxembourg), Euroclear (Belgium) and in German financial institutions
  • Advising and representing Russian companies and individuals in relation to removal from UK and US sanctions lists
  • Advising Russian banks in relation to EU, UK and US sanctions, including on applying for licences or clarifications from foreign sanctions regulators, conducting sanctions risk screening, etc.
  • Advising a Russian pulp and paper company on the impact of EU, UK, US and Swiss sanctions on the company’s corporate governance and operations
  • Representing a Russian multinational energy company in a series of arbitrations under the rules of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce concerning supply and transit of natural gas (total value of claims exceeded USD50 billion), and in court proceedings for the recognition and enforcement of the arbitral awards in England, Latvia, Luxembourg, Moldova, the Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland
  • Representing a Cypriot holding company in an international arbitration under the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce for over USD22 million in relation to a shareholders’ agreement
  • Representing an Indian state-owned energy company in a dispute over the recognition and enforcement in Russia of an ad hoc arbitral award valued at over USD400 million
  • Representing a Swiss trading company in disputes with a seaport operator in the Krasnodar Territory relating to the termination of a USD315 million transhipment contract containing a "take-or-pay" provision in the courts of the Moscow Judicial District and in the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation
  • Representing shareholders of a Russian transport and logistics company in a series of corporate disputes, including challenging resolutions of the board of directors and the annual general meeting of shareholders
