Julianna Tabastajewa focuses on intellectual property protection and litigation, pharmaceutical law, competition and advertising law, media law, and franchising. She has experience in domestic litigation, arbitration and the Russian Intellectual Property Court.

Throughout her career, Julianna has represented Russian and international companies in complex trademark, copyright, patent and domain disputes.

Julianna has contributed significantly to new domain regulations in Russia and has written extensively on the subject. She has also worked with the Russian Franchising Association on changes to franchising law and has advised media, pharmaceutical and medical device companies on related issues in Russia.

The topic of Julianna’s PhD dissertation focused on intellectual property aspects of unfair competition in Russia.

Experience

  • Representing a US streaming platform in a number of copyright infringement cases for broadcasting Premier League football matches and Continental Hockey League games. These cases changed the legal practice in relation to information intermediaries as platforms were exempted from liability for violations of their users
  • Representing a European media group in a reputational dispute in a court of general jurisdiction. The claimant dropped the claim in the court of first instance
  • Advising and representing a US developer of hardware and software in a dispute with a Russian individual (author) in relation to a patent infringement of the client’s products. The dispute was settled amicably
  • Advising and representing a Canadian toy manufacturer in relation to preventing the distribution of counterfeit goods in Russia
  • Representing a US paint manufacturer in a trademark infringement dispute. The dispute was resolved with a settlement agreement
  • Representing a European manufacturer of equipment for the textile industry in a patent dispute on the infringement of rights to a Eurasian patent in the Eurasian Patent Office
  • Supporting a Russian energy company in numerous projects of patenting intellectual property objects, and registering licence agreements to use trademark rights in foreign jurisdictions
  • Representing a German manufacturer of adhesive products before the Federal Customs Service of Russia for registering trademarks in the Customs Register of Intellectual Property Objects
