Legal Director
Maria Alterman focuses on advising clients on a wide range of general business law matters, including commercial and regulatory aspects of doing business in Russia, as well as business sale and divestment transactions.

Maria represents clients in connection with the sale and purchase of assets in Russia, including navigating international and Russian businesses through the international sanctions and Russian countersanction regimes.

Maria has considerable experience in FMCG and pharmaceuticals sectors. Maria was lead lawyer of the team advising on the launch of a novel consumer product category in Russia, starting from identifying the applicable regulatory treatment, arranging for the import and sales contractual set-up, leading the negotiations with both offline and e-commerce sales operators, up to supporting the client in administrative and court disputes arising in connection with the product expansion.

Maria’s experience includes ongoing advice to clients on navigating through regulatory regimes for various consumer products, including safety, sales, marketing, and advertising regulations.

Maria has been mentioned in Legal 500 rating for Russia in 2021 in “Commercial, Corporate and M&A” ranking as a leading lawyer, being described as having “exceptional technical legal skills” and “praised for her responsiveness and ability to quickly grasp the fast changing circumstances.”

  • Representing the seller in the process of the sale of a Russian car dealership business to various bidders
  • Representing a Swiss industrial engineering group in the process of selling its Russian business
