Ekaterina focuses on strategic planning in intellectual property, trademarks, copyright and anti-counterfeiting issues and deals with a full range of work with trademarks and other IP objects, including the development of brand protection strategies, preliminary searches, brand launches, registration, and subsequent protection.

Ekaterina has experience in both international consulting and as an in-house lawyer in one of the largest FMCG companies – in its Russian office and the global head office.

Ekaterina advises Russian and foreign clients of various industrial backgrounds on a wide range of IP rights issues and during her career has defended the interests of dozens of Russian and foreign companies specialising in various sectors, such as food, FMCG, IT, tourism, pharmaceuticals, media and others, including working with the world’s most high-value brands.

Ekaterina has been ranked by Pravo-300 in the “Intellectual Property (Consulting),” “Intellectual Property (Registration),” “Intellectual Property (Litigation),” “TMT (Telecommunications, Media, and Technology),” and “Digital Economy.”

Experience

  • Taking care of the trademark portfolio (registration, maintenance, and enforcement) for a world-famous international soft drinks company, including the development of strategies for extending and strengthening the client’s trademark rights in Russia
  • Taking care of the trademark portfolio (registration and enforcement) for a world-famous international coffeehouse brand, including defending its interests in a high-profile dispute concerning copycat cafés from a trademark infringement and unfair competition perspective in Russia and defending the client’s rights in a non-use cancellation attack
  • Advising a world-famous international hotel chain on trademark registration, protection, and licensing in Russia and other CIS countries
  • Representing a US corporation offering water, hygiene and infection prevention solutions and services on a regular basis in enforcement matters in Russia, and in a complex trademark registration case, involving negotiations and settlement procedures with a number of opposing right holders, including at the Russian Chamber for Patent Disputes; advising on licensing aspects
  • Providing trademark clearance and strategic brand counselling services for a Japanese multinational video game and entertainment company on a regular basis
  • Taking care of the trademark portfolio of the world’s largest pharmaceutical company, with a head office in Germany, securing the registration of new brands, maintaining the portfolio and defending its brands against squatters’ trademark filings
  • Representing a Canadian multi-brand retailer in a trademark registration case, including at the Russian Chamber for Patent Disputes and Intellectual Property Court
  • Taking care of the trademark portfolio (clearance, registration, and maintenance) for the world’s largest international airline, with a head office in Dubai
  • Acting for a US telecommunications company in a complex trademark registration case
