Mikhail Bychikhin’s practice focuses on sanctions and restrictive measures introduced by the US, EU, UK, Switzerland and other jurisdictions, as well as countermeasures adopted by Russia and other countries. He regularly advises clients on arbitration matters and acts both in international litigations and arbitrations, including under the rules of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC), the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation (ICAC), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

Mikhail’s experience includes a large number of matters related to sanctions regulations, as well as high-value arbitrations and litigations covering a variety of legal and factual issues, including the application of EU law and international treaties.

Mikhail is recommended in the area of compliance, international arbitration, litigation and sanctions by Legal 500, RAA Awards and Pravo-300.

  • Advising and acting for Russian banks, asset managers and investors in relation to unblocking the payments/securities held in Euroclear and Clearstream, European providers of financial market infrastructure services, due to sanctions targeting Russia’s National Settlement Depository
  • Advising and acting for Russian banks and financial institutions on seeking licences and interpretive guidance from sanctions authorities of the US, EU member countries and the UK
  • Representing an individual in challenging US and UK asset freeze sanctions
  • Advising a Russian-Asian fund for bilateral cooperation on all issues of US, EU and UK sanctions, including turnkey legal support of the client’s projects and investments
  • Advising a number of companies and individuals on US, EU and UK sanctions issues, including due diligence and internal investigations
  • Representing an energy company in arbitrations under the rules of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce related to the supply and transportation of natural gas, set aside and enforcement litigations in various jurisdictions
  • Representing an investor in a multimillion-USD arbitration under International Chamber of Commerce Arbitration rules in relation to a shareholders agreement
